The Good Neighbor Orphanage
In early September, The Good Neighbor
Orphanage opened its doors, and 16 Haitian children moved into their new
home. What a thrill it was to see those precious children’s faces! These
little ones now know they will have somewhere to call home. They will eat three
meals a day, do their school work, and have a safe
place to sleep at night. They know they have a group of caring people who will
love them and take care of them. We believe the Lord has entrusted these
children into our hands to love and protect, and He knows we will teach them
about our Lord and Saviour. All these children came to us through their
churches, and are orphans with no place to go. Already the pastors of the
Baptist churches in that area want us to expand the orphanage to take more
children. The need is so great.
These children are the future of their country. If we can make a difference in these children’s lives, they will make a difference in their children’s lives, and that will be Haiti’s future. “…the Lord said unto me, Gather me the people together, and I will make them hear my words, that they may learn to fear me all the days that they shall live upon the earth, and that they may teach their children.” (Deuteronomy 4:10)

John Thelus, the coordinator of the orphanage and pastor training project in Port-au-Prince, has done a wonderful job in getting the orphanage up and running. He and his family have been very instrumental in getting the work done to make this house a home for these children.

During the first week of November, Don and several others will be in Haiti,
working with a group of pastors from the local churches. These men come from
miles away just to get the training and support that will enable
them to help
their congregations. These pastors are more than willing to ask questions, soak
up information and training, and learn all they can about serving their people.
They love the Lord and readily accept any training we provide. We have a core
group of pastors who work to bring others to these conferences, and every time
we conduct a conference, there are more in attendance.

Please pray for our work in Haiti. There is so much civil unrest in that country, but God has opened the doors for us to bring help and encouragement to the pastors and a safe place for the children in the orphanage.
